The Augmented Human Computer Interaction lab, set-up for demonstrating audioIn the 4th year, the Advanced Electrical and Electronic studies module enables students to delve deeply into a topic in Digital Music or Audio of their own choosing, under the guidance of an experienced researcher. Example topics include: The Phase Vocoder and its musical applications; State-of-the-Art in Melody Recognition, State-of-the-Art in Instrument Separation; Digital Power Amplifier Design, etc.

As well as a team project in the second year and a special group project in the third year, you will undertake a personal project in your final year and will be tutored and advised in this by a researcher from the Department of Electronic Engineering’s world leading Centre for Digital Music . In some cases these projects will also be collaborative with one of our industrial partners, such as Philips Research, Sun Microsystems and Yahoo. Some projects will use our state-of-the-art, 3D listening and performing space (commissioned in summer 2006), and/or with musicians and creative artists.
